Is grazing allowed in Wilderness? PDF Print E-mail
Yes.

Grazing is allowed to continue at the level that existed at the time the Wilderness was designated. New developments and uses are not considered a "grand fathered" use, but current developments can be maintained by whatever methods were in use prior to designation, including with the use of mechanized equipment and motorized vehicles.

Section 4(d)4(2) of the Wilderness Act states: "The grazing of livestock, where established prior to the effective date of this Act, shall be permitted to continue subject to such reasonable regulations as are deemed necessary by the Secretary of Agriculture."
