In Congress, the Transportation Conference Committee is now meeting, and we need your help sending a message to these lawmakers that we want the Land and Water Conservation Fund to be fully funded.

The best way to do this is to call or email Rep. Joe Heck and his chief of staff Greg Facchiano (at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ). About 20 Congressional Republicans have signed a letter asking House Speaker John Boehner to prioritize LWCF funding. Urge Rep. Joe Heck to do the same.

This action is critically important. LWCF has always had bipartisan support. It helps sustain our parks, trails, forest, wildlife refuges, battlefields, historic sites, hunting and working lands, driving an outdoor recreation industry that contributes more than $1 trillion to the American economy every year.

Here’s a sample email or message you could send:

Dear Congressman Heck:

I’m contacting you to urgently request that you sign a letter to House Speaker John Boehner supporting inclusion of Senate-passed language on the Land and Water Conservation Fund in the Transportation conference.

This fund is vitally important to the parks, trails, wildlife refuges, conservation areas and other significant public lands that are so important to Nevada and its economy.

The fund is critical to successful partnerships with states, localities, private organizations and landowners to meet local conservation, recreation and historic preservation needs in our state. We need to keep LWCF going in the coming years. It’s important to me personally but also important to Nevada’s economy.
